Final-year BA Animation & Visual Effects students at Yeldo Mar Baselios College of Media and Design (YMBC) were transported into the invisible world of Hollywood magic during the electrifying session Magic Beyond the Camera. Organized by the Placement Cell in collaboration with the Skill Centre at Tagore Theatre on 28 January 2026, this event featured the visionary Mr. Sankar Lal, Co-founder and Creative Director of Zebu FX. Drawing from his illustrious career, Mr. Lal unveiled the artistry of VFX storytelling, demonstrating how it transforms ordinary films into timeless epics through seamless integration of digital wizardry and narrative depth. With hands-on experience on global blockbusters like Kantara, The Jungle Book, and The Lion King, alongside prestigious collaborations with Disney, Mr. Lal shared insider insights into the evolving landscape of VFX in the modern world. He dissected proven pathways to success in the AVGC sector, from conceptualizing immersive visuals to mastering cutting-edge tools that bring fantastical worlds to life. Attendees gained a front-row seat to real-world techniques, including compositing, motion capture, and procedural effects, all contextualized within today's demand for emotionally resonant storytelling that captivates audiences. The session's profound impact on students cannot be overstated. It equipped aspiring VFX artists with practical strategies to bridge academic learning and industry demands, igniting their creative confidence and sharpening their portfolios for competitive placements. Many reported a transformative shift in perspective-viewing VFX not just as technical effects, but as a storytelling superpower that elevates cinema. This exposure to Mr. Lal's expertise fostered invaluable networking opportunities, inspired entrepreneurial thinking in AVGC, and motivated participants to pursue ambitious projects, positioning them as future leaders ready to craft unforgettable cinematic experiences. Beyond the cameras into legend-where every frame tells an epic tale. The YMBC's Placement Cell and Skill Centre organized this workshop, exclusively for final year students to uplift their film industry connection, and the tools to turn their VFX dreams into blockbuster reality.
