Sustainable Spaces Unveiled: Inspire Your Design Legacy!

The Department of Interior Design at Yeldo Mar Baselios College organized an enriching site visit to a pioneering Sustainable Living project in Ernakulam on January 19, 2026. This immersive experience allowed students and faculty to explore cutting-edge practices in eco-conscious design, fostering hands-on learning in sustainable principles. The visit focused on biophilic design, which integrates natural elements like plants, water features, and organic materials to create harmonious indoor environments that enhance occupant well-being. Participants delved into passive solar strategies, such as optimal window orientations and thermal massing to harness sunlight for natural heating and cooling, minimizing energy reliance. Recycled materiality took center stage, showcasing innovative uses of reclaimed wood, bamboo, and repurposed metals to reduce waste while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Net-zero spatial harmony was demonstrated through integrated systems achieving energy self-sufficiency, blending architecture with ecology. Students mastered biophilic principles including natural shapes (curves and arches evoking landscapes), patterns (wood grains and fractals), and sensory variability (light-shadow play and earthy color palettes). The session emphasized crafting "eco-luxury" interiors-spaces that fuse opulence with sustainability, like green walls and modular furnishings from renewable sources. Students were highlighted how to approach redefine urban living in Kerala's tropical climate, promoting resilience against environmental challenges. This workshop seize the aspiring designers lead to green revolution and inspire them to join the movement for tomorrow's built world.
