    FeverNova - Battle for Glory: FIFA 2026 Showdown

    Yeldo Mar Baselios College Sports Club turned the campus into a pulsating arena of sport and celebration on 12 June 2026 with "FeverNova -Battle for Glory," an exhilarating homage to the global football fever of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. From the opening flash mob to the final whistle of the penalty shootout, FeverNova blended competitive spirit, cultural expression and community pride to create a day that students, faculty and guests will remember for seasons to come. FeverNova ran smoothly to meticulous planning and on-the-ground coordination under the guidance of Mr. Ani Antony and Mr. Jithin Mattappilly. Their leadership-combined with the dedication of student volunteers and event coordinators-ensured that scheduling, venue setup and participant management were handled professionally. The festivities began promptly at 9:30 AM at the Forecourt of the College with an energetic inauguration led by Ms. Chinchu V Joy, Principal In-Charge. Her words set the tone for a day that celebrated both athleticism and the college's entrenched values of teamwork, discipline and creativity. Immediately after, students erupted into a vibrant flash mob that wove together contemporary moves and football-inspired choreography. The performance culminated in the dramatic unveiling of posters representing different national teams - a visual tribute to the global spirit of the World Cup and a clever way to connect campus culture with an international event. Music and atmosphere were provided by a dynamic band performance at 9:40 AM, keeping energy levels high and drawing an enthusiastic crowd to the Forecourt. The ceremonial football kick-off signaled the formal commencement of the day's competitions, moving the action seamlessly from spectacle to sport. The event offered creative and community-focused activities beyond competitive fixtures. Face painting coordinated by Mr. Robin Paul - brought color and team pride to faces across the campus; Liya Hanan and Jestina M Thomas from the department Interior Design won the face-painting contest with expressive, team-themed artwork that delighted both participants and onlookers. "Pass the Ball," an engaging participatory game organized by Ms. Ashna Mohammed and Ms. Merin Paulose on the Main Avenue, encouraged casual players and spectators to join in the fun, with Sreeraj Reghu from Interior Design Department winning the challenge and exemplifying the inclusive spirit of the day. At the heart of FeverNova was the 5-a-side football tournament held on the College Ground. Fast-paced, skilful and fiercely contested, the tournament showcased the best of YMBC's sporting talent and organizational backbone came from our dedicated team of coordinators, Mr. Febin M Sunny and Mr. Arun Sivan for the football tournament. Teams displayed sharp passing, tactical awareness and an admirable competitive spirit. After a day of gripping fixtures, the "Portugal Fans" team emerged victorious, demonstrating cohesion, attacking flair and resilience under pressure. Their triumph added a thrilling competitive crescendo to the day and offered a model of disciplined teamwork for younger players watching from the sidelines. Students and spectators gathered tightly along the avenue, cheering each attempts. HoDs of various departments awarded the winners. Esports and contemporary gaming made a strong appearance with the PES Mobile (eFootball) competition, staged in the college premises. Gaming coordinator Mr. Lijo John presided over a tournament that drew tech-savvy players and fans of virtual football, demonstrating YMBC's embrace of modern competitive formats alongside traditional sports. The eFootball crown was taken by Adithyan C Vinod from the Department of Animation & Graphic Design , illustrated his interdisciplinary talent to win the title. Our Multimedia student Pranav Krishna clinched the penalty-shootout title, his calm under pressure. Mr. Binil Eldhose and Ms. Sruthy Mohan were the coordinators of the penalty shootout, who each ensured their segments ran smoothly. Beyond the trophies and titles, FeverNova left a meaningful imprint on Yeldo Mar Baselios College's student body. For participating athletes, it provided a platform to test their skills in a competitive yet supportive environment, boosting confidence and highlighting pathways for further athletic development. Students who watched or volunteered gained valuable skills, experienced teamwork, leadership and crowd engagement - competencies that extend beyond the pitch and the visible involvement of faculty and administrative leadership including the Principal In-Charge, Ms. Chinchu V Joy strengthened the sense of institutional support for co-curricular initiatives, showing students that their passions are valued and nurtured. Moreover, the inclusion of esports alongside traditional football signaled YMBC's forward-looking approach to student interests, bridging physical sport and digital competition in ways that reflect contemporary youth culture.
