Holistic Health Workshop: Yoga at YMBC to Rejuvenate & Restore

Yeldo Mar Baselios College (YMBC) hosted an invigorating Holistic Health Workshop titled "Yoga at YMBC to Rejuvenate & Restore," organized by the Yoga Club in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 22June 2026. The session, held on the Shooting Floor and led by Sri Nikhil Mohan Ministry of AYUSH certified instructor from the Art of Living - drew a diverse group of around fifty students eager to explore yoga's physical and mental benefits. What began as a scheduled training rapidly became a shared experience of calm, focus, and community that left a visible impression on participants and organizers alike. From the first moments, Sri Nikhil set a tone of accessibility and encouragement. He presented the practice not as an advanced discipline reserved for the few, but as a practical toolkit anyone could adopt. With clear, patient instructions and thoughtful modifications for different fitness levels, he guided students through a sequence of warm-ups, foundational asanas, pranayama (breathwork), and a concluding guided relaxation. The accessible approach helped students of varying experience - from beginners to those with prior practice - feel included and motivated to try new postures and breathing techniques without self-judgment. The physical benefits were immediate and widely felt. Several students experienced flexibility after the stretching and mobility drills, while others noticed reduced muscle tension and a lighter sense of movement. The carefully paced practice emphasized alignment and breath-synchronized motion, which reinforced safe body mechanics and reduced strain. For students who spend long hours in studios, at desks, or in front of computers, these practical tools offered a tangible remedy these practical tools offered a tangible remedy for posture-related discomfort and fatigue. Equally significant was the workshop's positive effect on mental clarity and emotional balance. Through guided pranayama and mindful transitions, participants experienced a noticeable drop in mental clutter and stress. Breathing exercises as acted as a powerful anchors that slowed racing thoughts and sharpened concentration. This mental calm paid immediate dividends among the students, who had been anxious about upcoming projects or deadlines spoke afterward about feeling more centered, capable of returning to their work with renewed perspective and composure. Practicing yoga, together fostered a warm sense of belonging and mutual support. Simple moments a guided exhale shared across the room, an encouraging instruction from Sri Nikhil, the soft collective inhale before a posture - cultivated a brief but meaningful community. Students who had arrived alone left conversing and exchanging tips, and several formed plans to continue practicing together on campus. The workshop thus reinforced the college's commitment to holistic education, emphasizing academic success is deeply tied to physical health, mental balance, and social connection. Practical takeaways made the session valuable beyond the day itself. Sri Nikhil demonstrated short, repeatable practices students can integrate into daily routines: 10-minute morning stretches to loosen the spine, breathing cycles to reduce pre-exam anxiety, and quick posture resets for long studio sessions. These bite-sized techniques were particularly appreciated because they fit into busy student schedules and are easy to repeat without special equipment or space. The workshop reflected enthusiastic appreciation. Students highlighted the instructor's clarity, the approachable pace, and the immediate sense of rejuvenation and expressed interest in themed workshops for back care, sleep improvement, or stress management during exam periods. This Holistic Health Workshop succeeded in more than teaching yoga; it planted seeds for a healthier campus culture. By combining professional guidance, practical tools, and a welcoming atmosphere, YMBC offered fifty students a memorable introduction to mindful living that they can build on. The college looks forward to continuing these opportunities, nurturing student wellbeing as an integral part of academic life.
