    From Awareness to Action: Campus Safety!

    Yeldo Mar Baselios College (YMBC) hosted an energizing and heartwarming interactive session, "Break the Ice: An Interactive Session with Celebrity RJs - Laugh, Learn & Connect," for first-year BA Multimedia, BA Interior Design, and BSc Fashion Designing students on 29 July 2026 at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall. The event brought together budding creatives from across departments to foster camaraderie, encourage self-exploration, and build enduring interdepartmental friendships early in their college journey. We were privileged to welcome RJ Vinu and RJ Sarath as the session's anchors and facilitators. Both celebrity radio personalities used their trademark warmth, wit, and empathy to create an inclusive atmosphere where students felt comfortable, seen, and heard. Through a carefully curated mix of humour, storytelling, and guided interaction, the RJs helped break down initial barriers and invited students to engage openly with peers from different disciplines. The programme combined light-hearted entertainment with purposeful activities designed to deepen self-awareness and strengthen peer connections. An opening icebreaker invited students to share one surprising fact about themselves in pairs, then introduce their partner to the larger group. This exercise not only eased nervousness but also encouraged active listening and attention to detail. Several rounds of "speed-meet" networking followed, enabling students to rotate through short, focused conversations with peers from other departments a format that produced immediate rapport and sparked conversations about shared interests and creative ambitions. RJs-led games and humour segments generated sustained laughter and spontaneity. These activities encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones, experiment with playful expression, and celebrate imperfection. The RJs modelled supportive feedback and enthusiastic encouragement, setting the tone for a judgement-free space where trying and failing were part of the learning experience. Alongside the laughter, the session created space for reflective and emotionally resonant exchange. The RJs guided a "values and aspirations" circle in which participants were invited to voice their hopes, anxieties, and expectations for college life and creative careers. Gentle prompts encouraged students to speak about sources of motivation, the pressures they anticipate, and ways peers could offer support. Several students opened up about homesickness, performance anxiety, and the desire to find like-minded collaborators responses that were met with warmth, empathy, and constructive advice from both the RJs and fellow students. Interactive group challenges blended creativity with collaboration. Mixed-department teams were asked to design a quick concept for a campus campaign - combining multimedia ideas, visual aesthetics, and fashion sensibilities - and present it in a two-minute pitch. The exercise highlighted interdisciplinary strengths, stimulated cross-pollination of ideas, and produced enthusiastic applause for inventive concepts and confident teamwork. The RJs concluded with an uplifting address on the power of humour, empathy, and vulnerability in creative communities, reminding students that talent grows best in environments of mutual respect and encouragement. Feedback collected after the event reflected high appreciation for the RJs' approachable style, the balance of fun and depth, and the opportunity to meet peers across disciplines. Even faculties noted increased enthusiasm among first-year students and observed the formation of new study groups and creative partnerships in the days following the session. We thank RJ Vinu and RJ Sarath for their generous time and the students for their honest participation. The college remains committed to programming that nurtures both the creative skills and emotional wellbeing of its students, helping them to laugh, learn, and connect as they embark on their academic and professional journeys.
