    From Dreams to Destiny: An Inspirational Session for First-Year Creators

    Yeldo Mar Baselios College (YMBC) welcomed the newest cohort of creative students to an energising and thought-provoking session titled "From Dreams to Destiny" on 21 July 2026. The programme, designed specifically for first-year students of BA Multimedia, BA Interior Design, and B.Sc Fashion Designing, took place at 1:00 PM in the College Theatre and featured Prof. K. M. Kuriakose, Retired Professor and former Principal of BPC College, Piravom, as the keynote speaker. Prof. Kuriakose Sir brought decades of his academic leadership and practical experience to the session, guiding students through the critical intersection of purpose, passion, and perseverance. His talk emphasised that creative careers are not born from talent alone but are shaped deliberately through clarity of purpose, disciplined practice, and an openness to lifelong learning. Using real-world anecdotes and actionable advice, he encouraged students to treat their formative college years as a laboratory for experimentation-where failure is reframed as feedback and every project becomes an opportunity to refine both skill and voice. The session began with a reflection his experience urged students to blend personal motivation with social relevance, offering examples from multimedia campaigns, interior projects, and fashion initiatives that balanced individual expression with community needs. He highlighted how understanding user context and cultural nuance enhances the impact of creative solutions and increases employability in a competitive landscape. Passion, he explained, should be fuel rather than the sole strategy. The talk outlined practical ways to sustain enthusiasm over a long career: set small, measurable goals; maintain a discipline of regular practice; build a portfolio that showcases process as well as outcome; and cultivate mentors and peer networks that provide candid feedback. He also stressed the importance of interdisciplinary curiosity-encouraging multimedia students to learn about spatial design, interior students to explore visual storytelling, and fashion students to study digital techniques-so graduates emerge versatile and resilient. Perseverance formed the final pillar of the address. He shared strategies for navigating setbacks, overcoming creative blocks, and converting transient rejection into meaningful growth. He recommended structured reflection after each project, iterative refinement rather than perfectionism, and a mindset that values long-term progress over instant validation. Practical tips included time-boxing exploratory work, maintaining a document to track skills acquired, participating in competitions and collaborations to gain exposure. The session concluded with Prof. Kuriakose Sir's experience-based guidance and invited students to view college resources-labs, workshops, and faculty mentorship-as platforms for professional experimentation. This orientation program left students with renewed clarity and confidence. The College thanks Prof. K. M. Kuriakose for his generous sharing of insights and practical tools.
