    Empowering Staff, Elevating Excellence

    Yeldo Mar Baselios College organised a Professional Development Programme for its staff on 10 September 2026 at Tagore Theatre. The programme was conducted as part of the institution's continuous efforts to strengthen professional competence, encourage lifelong learning and promote excellence in the academic and administrative spheres. The programme featured Dr. Xavier P. E., Kerala Operations Head of Piramal Capital & Housing Finance Ltd., as the resource person. Through his insightful session, Dr. Xavier highlighted the importance of professional growth, personal responsibility and ethical conduct in building a successful and progressive educational institution. His interaction with the staff was both informative and inspiring, offering meaningful perspectives on the evolving responsibilities of teachers in contemporary education. Dr. Xavier described teaching as an adorable and noble profession that extends far beyond the delivery of lessons. According to him, a teacher plays several important roles in a student's life-as an educator, mentor, guide, role model and source of encouragement. Teachers have the unique opportunity to influence the intellectual, emotional, social and moral development of young people. Their words, attitudes and actions can leave a lasting impression on students and shape their aspirations and character. During the session, Dr. Xavier shared several relevant examples drawn from professional and everyday experiences. These examples encouraged the teachers to reflect on their own journeys, classroom practices and relationships with students. By connecting the discussion with the personal experiences of the participants, he created an engaging and reflective learning environment. The session enabled the teachers to examine how small acts of kindness, patience, attentiveness and encouragement can make a significant difference in the lives of students. A major focus of the programme was the responsibility of teachers within an educational institution. Dr. Xavier emphasised that teachers are responsible not only for completing the curriculum but also for creating an inclusive, respectful and motivating learning environment. He underlined the significance of punctuality, preparedness, effective communication, fairness, confidentiality and sensitivity while dealing with students and colleagues. Teachers were encouraged to remain updated in their respective disciplines, adopt innovative teaching methods and respond positively to the changing needs of learners. Dr. Xavier also discussed the importance of maintaining professional decorum. He reminded the staff that teachers are constantly observed by students and are expected to set a positive example through their conduct. Professionalism must be reflected in their language, appearance, behaviour, digital communication and interactions within and outside the classroom. Respect for students, cooperation with colleagues, adherence to institutional policies and responsible handling of information were highlighted as essential aspects of professional conduct. Teachers were also encouraged to uphold the dignity of the teaching profession through integrity, empathy and accountability. The programme provided the staff with an opportunity to learn, reflect and renew their commitment to the mission of education. It reinforced the idea that institutional excellence begins with empowered, responsible and motivated individuals.
