Yeldo Mar Baselios College, Kothamangalam, organised a Blood Donation Camp on 6 October 2026 at 9:30 a.m. in the Media Block, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility, community welfare, and humanitarian service. The camp was organised by the Social Service League of the College in association with IMA Kothamangalam and IMA Aluva Blood Bank. With the theme, "A Drop of Blood, A Lifetime of Hope," the programme encouraged students, faculty members, and staff to recognise blood donation as a simple yet powerful act of compassion that can save precious human lives. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Liza Thomas, Consultant Paediatrician and Adolescent Physician, St. Joseph's Hospital, Dharmagiri, Kothamangalam, who also served as the Resource Person for the programme. Dr. Liza Thomas is the President of IMA Kothamangalam. In her inaugural address, she highlighted the critical and continuing need for voluntary blood donation in society. She explained that blood cannot be manufactured artificially and that timely donations remain essential for patients undergoing surgeries, accident victims, individuals with anaemia, cancer patients, and those requiring emergency medical care. Dr. Liza Thomas emphasised that a single unit of donated blood can make a life-saving difference, often becoming a second chance at life for a patient in need. She urged the college community to view blood donation not merely as a medical procedure, but as an expression of empathy, civic responsibility, and solidarity with fellow human beings. Her inspiring words encouraged many participants to overcome hesitation and come forward confidently to donate blood. The camp witnessed an encouraging response from the college community. Around 120 people, including students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff, expressed their willingness to donate blood. After the necessary medical screening and eligibility verification, 40 units of blood were successfully collected during the camp. The collected units were handed over to IMA Aluva Blood Bank for safe storage and distribution to patients in need. The smooth conduct of the camp was made possible through the active cooperation of the college management, the Social Service League, teaching and non-teaching staff, and student volunteers. The organisers ensured that all donation procedures were carried out under proper medical supervision, maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and donor care. Refreshments and post-donation care were also arranged for the donors, reflecting the College's concern for their well-being. The Blood Donation Camp formed part of Yeldo Mar Baselios College's ongoing efforts to promote social awareness, volunteerism, and community engagement among students. By providing a platform for meaningful public service, the programme helped students understand the importance of contributing positively to society beyond the boundaries of the classroom. It also reinforced the values of compassion, responsibility, and collective action that the College seeks to nurture in every learner. The organisers expressed sincere gratitude to IMA Kothamangalam and IMA Aluva Blood Bank for their valuable support, technical assistance, and cooperation in making the event a grand success. Special appreciation was extended to Dr. Liza Thomas for her enlightening address and her encouragement of voluntary blood donation. The College also thanked all donors, volunteers, faculty members, and staff members whose enthusiastic participation made the camp meaningful and impactful. The successful completion of the Blood Donation Camp stands as a testament to the College's dedication to serving society and nurturing socially responsible citizens. Every drop of blood donated during the camp carries with it the promise of hope, healing, and renewed life. Yeldo Mar Baselios College remains committed to organising such humanitarian initiatives in the future, inspiring its students and staff to continue making a difference-one act of kindness at a time. So donate blood, save lives and inspire hope!
