IGNITE Orientation Programme on Entrepreneurship Development Held at YMBC

The Entrepreneurship Development (ED) Club of Yeldo Mar Baselios College organised IGNITE - Orientation Programme on Entrepreneurship Development on 29 September 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tagore Theatre. The programme was organised with the objective of introducing students to the possibilities of entrepreneurship and inspiring them to transform innovative ideas into meaningful ventures. The session provided a valuable platform for students to understand the entrepreneurial mindset, explore emerging opportunities and gain practical insights into the process of developing a business idea. Mr. Geo Jose, Assistant District Industrial Officer, Kothamangalam, served as the resource person for the programme. With his professional experience and understanding of industrial development and enterprise promotion, he offered the participants an informative perspective on the various dimensions of entrepreneurship. His session focused on the qualities, skills and attitudes required to identify opportunities, develop sustainable business ideas and successfully respond to the challenges of the modern business environment. The programme began by highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship in the growth and development of individuals and society. He also explained that entrepreneurship is not limited to the establishment of a business or the pursuit of profit. Rather, it involves recognising needs, identifying opportunities, creating innovative solutions and generating value for society. He encouraged students to look beyond conventional career pathways and consider entrepreneurship as a dynamic avenue for personal growth, professional achievement and social contribution. During the session, the resource person elaborated on the essential qualities of a successful entrepreneur. Vision, creativity, confidence, risk-taking ability, adaptability and perseverance were identified as some of the key attributes necessary for entrepreneurial success. He emphasised that entrepreneurs must be capable of visualising possibilities even in uncertain situations and should possess the determination to convert their ideas into practical outcomes. He also noted that setbacks and failures are natural components of the entrepreneurial journey and should be viewed as opportunities for learning and improvement. He further discussed the evolution of entrepreneurship, tracing its development from traditional business models to contemporary start-ups driven by technology, innovation and creativity. Through practical examples, he demonstrated how changing consumer needs, digital platforms and new technologies have created opportunities for young people to develop products and services in diverse fields. The discussion helped students understand that an entrepreneurial venture can emerge from a simple observation, a local problem or an innovative approach to an existing process. The session also provided insights into the initial stages of establishing a business venture. Students were encouraged to identify real-world problems, conduct appropriate research, understand market requirements and prepare a clear business plan. The importance of product development, financial planning, customer engagement and effective communication was explained as part of the process of transforming an idea into a viable enterprise. He also drew attention to the need for continuous learning, teamwork and networking in sustaining a business in a competitive environment. A significant aspect of the programme was the discussion on government support and the opportunities available to aspiring entrepreneurs. Students were encouraged to familiarise themselves with the schemes, guidance, training programmes and institutional support offered for enterprise development. Such awareness can help young entrepreneurs access the resources, mentorship and assistance required to refine their ideas and move towards implementation. The orientation motivated participants to develop confidence, problem-solving skills and an adaptable outlook. It reinforced the idea that entrepreneurship begins with curiosity, initiative and the willingness to take the first step. The interactive nature of the session enabled students to reflect on their own interests and abilities while encouraging them to explore innovative solutions to problems within their communities. IGNITE served as an inspiring and informative platform for nurturing entrepreneurial awareness among the students of Yeldo Mar Baselios College. The programme successfully connected academic learning with practical possibilities and encouraged students to view their ideas as potential instruments of change. By promoting creativity, innovation and enterprise, the ED Club continues to contribute to the development of a confident and future-ready student community. Through programmes such as IGNITE, the college remains committed to empowering young minds to move from concept to execution and to become responsible entrepreneurs and contributors to Kerala's economic and social development. The ED Club's initiative reflects the broader importance of entrepreneurship education in higher learning institutions. The Entrepreneurship Development Club functions as a platform for cultivating entrepreneurial culture, strengthening student skills and encouraging young people to explore enterprise as a meaningful career pathway.
